Newport City Info
Newport is a city in Rhode Island, about 48 km south of Providence.

The Newport Bridge, the longest suspension bridge in New England, connects Newport to neighboring Conanicut Island across the East Passage of the Narragansett Bay.

Newport hosts many beaches. Aquidneck Island is home to many beautiful beaches, most of which are public and a few private. In Newport, the largest public beach, Easton’s beach or First Beach, has a view of the famed Cliff Walk. Second Beach, straddling Newport and neighboring Middletown, is a fantastic beach for waves and the perfect spot for surfers.

Newport has the largest number of colonial homes in the nation. It is one of the few places in the nation that has been unchanged for over 200 years. Tourists can get a sense of what Boston, New York and other older east coast cities would have looked like during the Revolutionary period.

St. Mary’s Catholic parish located on Memorial Drive is where John F. Kennedy and Jacqueline Bouvier were married on September 12, 1953. Newport was also host to the Kennedy’s and Eisenhower summer cottages during their years in office.
